Presenter - Cosette Green – Alberta Works - June 24, 2013

Cosette Green is the liaison person in Lloydminster for Alberta Works and spoke to employers on how to reassess their business (or kick it up a notch), to support the hiring and retention practices of employees.  Topics included Labour Market Information; Understanding Today’s Workers; Making a Good First Impression; Providing Pay and Benefits; Helping Employees Feel Connect; Building Employee Talent; Other Reasons Employees Stay, such as Team-building; leadership coaching; conflict resolution; Managing through change and diversity training. One hiring challenge to employers is to assess what you can alter and where you need to stay consistent, for if you know this beforehand and the potential employee should make a request out of the norm you have some wiggle room to work around.  It was noted that today’s employees have a good idea of what workplace rules and regulations apply to them or they have the Internet skills to find out.
