Our guest speaker today was Doreen McCaw, President of the Border City Club, who gave the membership a brief overview of their club and all that it entails.

The Salvation Army kettle list circulates with a number of empty slots available

Remember, it's Billiards night on Wednesday

Where is Gonzo?  We need to keep him on the move

November 25

Our guest speaker today was Doreen McCaw, President of the Border City Club, who gave the membership a brief overview of their club and all that it entails.

  • Meet on Tuesday mornings at 7:00 a.m. at Harvest to Home

  • Membership is approximately 30 Rotarians of which 35% is female

  • Always looking for ways to attract and retain members

  • The club made a decision a few years ago to narrow their focus and primarily support Youth Programs and Projects

  • Major project of the club during the past three years is financial support to the Lloydminster Youth Centre for capital

  • Glad to hear that the Youth Centre will be moving into the old RCMP barracks as their new Centre; they have been at St. John’s Anglican Church Hall for 12 years and have outgrown this facility and are very much looking forward to having a bigger place to carry on their work and programs

  • Have been in discussion with Barry Davis of the Lloydminster Club to see what the two clubs can do to assist Megan Haycock in obtaining financial support through a global grant; Megan is planning to obtain her International Law Degree in International Studies and is very focused and determined in her goals

  • Partnering with the Rotary Club of Vermilion to assist in their Books for Belize project; to date they have delivered 3-4 truckloads of books (23,000 pounds) and have at least 2-3 more loads to delivered; the Vermilion Club will be sending 60,000 pounds of books in a Sea Can to Belize for school and public libraries leaving at the end of December

  • Major Fund Raiser is Irish Pub Night which can generate an average of $25,000 - $30,000.00; need to be realistic in what the Club can take on due to numbers

  • Hosting Incoming Student Marlon Silva from Brazil; Marlon has provided the club with his ‘bucket list’ during his time in Canada, so if anyone can help out please let Doreen know

  • Doreen extended an invitation for members to attend their club anytime; Randy Aston and Don Whiting are two of the regulars that do their make-ups by visiting the BBC

  •

THIS AND THAT

President Paul made reference to the following items:

  • Salvation Army Kettle list is being circulated; please sign up and help the Salvation Army by taking your turn; Rob Saunders is chair of this committee so give Rob a call @ 780 871 2797

  • Wednesday, November 27th is Billiards night at The Sticks – 7:00 p.m.

  • We’re not too sure where Gonzo is hiding out; please see that he continues to visit as many Rotarians (or others) as possible; our goal is to raise $1,000. for Polio Plus

  • Question as to whether we want to have a Club Auction in December with funds to be divided between the Salvation Army and the Olive Tree; the membership voted in favor of an Auction

THANK YOU to Doreen McCaw who was the ‘surprise’ Sgt-at-Arms today and raised dollars by way of “How Do I Know Thee”.
