SERGEANT-AT-ARMS: Mike Sidoryk raised dollars through ‘Education’ by way of facts and figures pertaining to local markets.  As we strive to keep our members updated with current information here is some information that Mike used to raise some dollars.

  1.  What does Locavone mean?  Someone who primarily or exclusively selects food from their local or regional foodshed.
  2. What does an average Alberta household spend when visiting a Farmer’s Marker?  $55.00 a visit
  3. Statistics in Canada show purchasing of local food has increased by what %  since 2007?  92%
  4. In a typical North American meal each ingredient has travel how many kms?   2400 km
  5. Sociologists estimate people have how many times more conversations in a Farmer’s Market than a supermarket?  10 times

 

DOOR PRIZES:   Thank you to Agland, Canadian Tire,  Charles Lamb, City Centre Auto, Lower Shannon Farms, Newcap, Tunes, and Don Whiting for donating the many door prizes.  All the winners had a smile on their face.

 

EXCHANGE STUDENT: This was the last Rotary meeting for our exchange student Alise Rolland.  Alise spoke of her year in Lloydminster, and while she is happy to returning to her family, she is sad to leave Lloydminster.  Wayde Blythe, on behalf of the club, presented Alsie with an ‘Umbrella Hat’, can of Tim Horton’s Chocolate and some warm winter mitts.   Alise was a great ambassador for her country and her parents should be extremely proud of her.  Save journey home Alise!!

 

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS:  In the interest of time we were unable to serenade Dave McCaw with Happy Birthday but I don’t think he will hold that against us.

 

PRESIDENT’S BBQ:  Our next Rotary meeting will be Monday, June 17th @ 6:30 p.m. (No noon meeting)  This will be the President’s BBQ (actually Roast Beef Supper) so please make effort to attend to support and thank our President Les for his year of leadership to the club.   Les would like everyone to wear some Hawaiian attire that evening.  PLEASE LET PAT KNOW ASAP IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND.
