Message from Border City Club

The Border City Rotary club hosted another very successful Irish Pub night on Saturday.  With just under 500 people in the room including party goers, sponsors, club members and volunteers, the club was thrilled with the attendance and support of the community.   Lenny the leprechaun (aka Les Hanson) did a fabulous job MC'ing the evening of very green Irish fun which included a performance by the Jones studio of Highland Dance, the ever popular Riverdance competition, a variety of drinking games, Irish themed door prizes, all in between the rocking music sets of the Prairie Dogs!  The Irish booze ran out early in the evening, the band played 'till 2 am and the party finally shutdown by 2:30...lets just say there was a lot of fun had in town on Saturday night!  Winner of the work and leisure raffle was Jason Walker who is the proud owner of a new hot tub!  Penny Aston went home with the Wagon of Booze.  A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, patrons and volunteers for a Very successful night.

Mark Your Calendars

April 18th we have scheduled a representative from Lakeland College to come speak to us about the Center for Sustainable Innovation which includes the Renewable Energy Learning Centre (RELC), a net-zero energy target building incorporating multiple combined renewable energy generation systems. .

April 25th will be our yearly "Rural / Urban" meeting and this year we plan to meet at Ribstone Creek Brewery in Edgerton Alberta.

May 9th we will be joined by the Border City Rotary club to go through an actual lesson plan with Junior Achievement Saskatchewan.

May 2nd is a VERY important Club Assembly.  This meeting will set the stage for the 2016-2017 Rotary year.  Be prepared to hear from each of the committee chairs on their past year in a "Dragon's Den" style of pitch.

Wellness Fair

This past week, our Rotary Club had a booth at the Lakeland College's Wellness Fair with over 50 other booths.  Other booths included local health services (yoga, Steps for Life), financial services (ATB, Servus, Synergy),  and local support services (Walking through Grief, Big Brothers Big Sisters) as examples.  Our club was asked to have a booth because growing your network and Service Above Self are certainly ways to build wellness personally and throughout our community.

Thank you to President Wayde, Jill Applegate, and Randy Aston for manning the booth and promoting our Club.

Handivan Needs Volunteers
Every two years, our local Lloydminster Handivan Society signs up to work the Camrose Casino for a couple nights and in return the organization receives a fairly substantial donation to put towards a new van or infrastructure.

The organization is looking for volunteers to assist them on Tuesday May 24th and Wednesday May 25th with working the casino from 3pm until late (or whatever hours you are able to offer).  From previous conversations, it is very simple and light work.  There would be some compensation offered for fuel and accommodation if needed.

Please get in touch with Glenn Fagnon 780-214-6666 or Jason Whiting  780-870-1346 if you are able to provide some assistance.
