Flashback Friday
At our July 2th meeting we had a very special guest.  Sammy (Samuel Morgan) was an inbound Rotary Exchange student that our club hosted in 2001-2002.   Certainly one of our best and most memorable exchange students.  Very thankful to have him come back to visit us and stay with in our City with some of his hosts and even teacher, Larry Sauer.

Update on our Kiva account...

Loans that change lives

Our Rotary Club of Lloydminster has donated $1500 per year to KIVA since 2010, totalling $9151.

This money has been lent out and repaid in 1649 loans with a total value of $41,725 in loans!

We contribute $25 to a loan along with other KIVA members to fully fund one individual, helping minimize our risk.  An average loan request is about $1500.

Here is a recent loan we supported!

Name: Roeun

Country: Cambodia

Loan is for: Home Energy

Loan Amount: $525

Loan Dispersed Date: July 22, 2016

Roeun’s Story

Roeun is a hard-working, 54-year-old married rice farmer in Ssrae Prich Village, Akphivoadth Commune, Tuek Phos District, Kampong Chhnang Province. She is a mother of six children, two still under her care.

Roeun is happy because her husband is very supportive in helping her to manage their farm. Through their efforts, they are each able to make an income of USD $10 a day.

Roeun wants to have household energy at a reduced monthly cost by purchasing a solar energy home system. Due to inadequate funds, she has requested a loan from Kiva through its partner, HKL.

After this initial investment, she hopes to have clean energy to power her household lights, TV and radio. She is planing to expand her business more than the previous time by buying another plot of farmland. She awaits your kindness and relies on your generosity.

Rotary Hosts Texas 4000
Once again, our Rotary Club hosted the group of 21 (or so) Texas 4000 bicyclists as they had a layover in our City.  Dick Arie is the one that has organized this for the past three years now and our Club has been happy to cover the expenses of the meal.  This year the meal was prepared and served by the ladies at Grace United church in their new area.  From there Brad Lake, Ken Kay, and a few others at Agland gave them the opportunity to drive some very large (size and dollar value) green machinery.  It is a lot of fun to watch Gord Roebuck sweat while these City fold drive his equipment around the yard.  The next morning the riders were hosted by the Border City Club and served a hearty breakfast before hitting the road to Vegerville.  Each morning they gather in a circle and share a story and/or state who they are going to pledge their day of riding to; in memory of someone who died of cancer, someone they are thankful for, or someone that is currently struggling.  Very moving.
